A Very Rare Pair of Delft Double Gourd Vases
Decorated with panels of finely drawn flowering plants on a powder blue ground
Probably London C1760/5
Height: 7 5/8″ (19.9 cm)
Condition: excellent, one vase does not even have a single frit in the glaze on the rim
There is some roughness to the glaze lower down
There is a damaged vase of this form in Bristol Museum (N. 3234) illustrated in colour in
‘English Delftware in the Bristol Collection by Frank Britton’ p 35
Jonathan Horne illustrates a similar vase in ‘A Collection of Early English Pottery Part XIII No.363)’
Where he mentions the Bristol Museum vase saying that it appears to be the only other recorded example
Similar decorated bottles have been attributed to Vauxhall, London, Mary or Jonathan Chilwell V’s pottery
