A Tibetan Short Sword and Scabbard

Provenance: 1903-04 British expedition to Tibet led by Francis Younghusband. The following artifacts were obtained by William Charles Hayman whilst taking part in this expedition. The holder of the Tibet medal (silver) spent his career in the Indian Army rising through the ranks to earn his commission.

Tibetan short sword Tsep – sa single edged blade. The hilt and grip beaten brass the grip bound with silver wire. The pommel set with coral and amethyst coloured stones. The scabbard of Tibetan silver and brass set with 2 coral and turquoise stones the body of the scabbard covered in shagreen. A silver cabouchon shape to the base. overall length 21½ .
